How are your chickens treated?
Look, we're going to say it. Kentucky Fried Chicken is the best chicken in the world. Yeah, we went there. And we reckon a big reason for that is our commitment to making sure we only use the highest quality, ethically sourced ingredients. This means we require all our suppliers to abide by all applicable laws, codes and regulations, as well as the high standards set out in our Supply Chain Management Code of Conduct.
Animal welfare is a big focus for us. All the chickens we use are raised in large barns, which allows flocks to be raised comfortably. We also require all our chicken meat suppliers to be members of the Australian Chicken Meat Federation and to strictly follow the Model Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals, Domestic Poultry. We've even gone above and beyond and developed our own Code of Conduct for suppliers, which includes animal welfare standards. We take this responsibility very seriously - any supplier caught violating it can kiss their contract goodbye.
We also follow all laws and regulations around the use of antibiotics to ensure all of our food is safe for our customers, as outlined in Yum! Brands' Good Antimicrobial Stewardship Principles. We know this is really important to a lot of people, so that's why we're committed to working with our suppliers to find ways to reduce the use of antibiotics important to human medicine in our chicken supply.

Do you have any sustainability initiatives?
So much of what we do is dependent on having a happy, healthy planet so you could say we're pretty keen on making sure it stays that way. We were actually the first Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) to get involved in 'Do the Right Thing, Use the Right Bin', a nationwide recycling initiative in partnership with the Australian Packaging Convenant. Recycling systems have been installed in our restaurants across Australia and we're continuing to grow our recycling program front-of-house for bottles, cans and cups. We also partner with an accredited third party supplier who picks up our cooking oil and processes it at various plants to make products such as biodiesel and animal feed. Pretty nifty, right?
And that's not all! Not to brag, but in 2013, we were the first QSR to open a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified restaurant at East Maitland in NSW. Our ambition is to design and build all new restaurants to be a LEED certifiable (or equivalent) standard, and so far, we're making good on that promise.

Do you advertise to children?
The short answer is, no we don't. We were a founding member of the Australian Food and Grocery Council's "Quick Service Restaurant Initiative for Responsible Advertising and Marketing to Children". That's a lot of words, but it basically means we don't advertise directly to anyone under the age of 14 in any media, we don't include toys in our children's meals, and we don't advertise them outside of our restaurants.
Do you have any halal options?
The Colonel believed everyone should have a seat at his table so we're mindful of responding to customer needs and cultural sensitivities in a balanced manner. We have just a few restaurants in Australia that don't serve bacon and are locally certified as halal. These locations are Punchbowl (NSW), Bankstown South (NSW) and Fawkner (VIC). There are no plans to expand this.
