KFC launches Cricket Club Grants to support clubs in need

26th November 2009

As thousands of young cricketers prepare for the season ahead, KFC has launched a Cricket Club Grant program to support local cricket clubs in need around the country. In partnership with Cricket Australia, KFC is searching for five local cricket clubs in Australia to win a share of $100,000 to fund new gear and equipment and further support the development of cricket in Australia.

Local clubs are the backbone of cricket in Australia. There are more than 4,000 local cricket clubs across the country and many of these are in desperate need of new gear and equipment, or even redevelopment. From bats and balls, to wickets and club houses, KFC’s Cricket Club Grants will help local clubs to perform at their best and keep producing Aussie cricketing stars like Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke.

KFC is calling on local clubs to register online at www.kfc.com.au/cricketgrants and say in 50 words or less why their club needs support, with entries closing on 8 January 2010*. Five winning clubs will then be announced on The Cricket Show on Channel Nine on 14 January 2010. Each winning club will receive a $20,000 donation to use for much needed new gear, equipment or even a rebuild.

CEO of Cricket Australia, James Sutherland commented on the initiative: "It’s great to have KFC on board supporting cricket in Australia at a community level. We encourage local clubs to take advantage of this unique opportunity and nominate their club for a KFC Cricket Club Grant."

Pedro De Martini, Marketing Director for KFC, said: "We’ve developed the KFC Cricket Club Grant program to help out cricket clubs in need and encourage more Australians to get involved in cricket at a local level.

"There are a lot of clubs out there that have suffered as a result of bushfires or floods, and there are others that struggle for funding and just need a helping hand to get some new equipment. KFC has been dedicated to supporting Australian Cricket for many years and this program demonstrates our commitment. Whether you watch the Boxing Day Test or you play under 18s at the local community club, cricket is, after all, Australia’s favourite game!"
