- Five Cricket Clubs celebrate $20,000 KFC grant -
15 January, 2010
KFC has today announced the winners of its Cricket Club Grant program, which supports local cricket clubs in need around the country.
KFC received 727 entries representing around 18 per cent of cricket clubs in Australia. Establishing the recipients from the overwhelming list was challenging however, the following clubs will each receive a $20,000 KFC Cricket Club Grant:
• Narrabri District Cricket Association, Narrabri, New South Wales
• Box Hill North Cricket Club, Vermont South, Victoria
• Loganholme Cricket Club, Waterford West, Queensland
• Capel Cricket Club, Capel, Western Australia
• Kenilworth Cricket Club, Adelaide, South Australia
KFC has a strong commitment to supporting and growing cricket, and this initiative, in partnership with Cricket Australia, was devised to help local clubs to perform at their best and keep producing Aussie cricketing stars like Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke. The entries were judged on the following criteria: commitment to cricket, genuine hardship and the need for basic equipment or facilities such as gear, uniform or storage sheds for example.
James Sutherland, CEO of Cricket Australia commented on the success of the initiative: “The program is a great way of supporting and giving something back to cricket at a community level – which is really the backbone of cricket in Australia. The KFC grants will make a significant difference to each winning cricket club, allowing them to fund vital new gear and equipment.”
Pedro De Martini, Marketing Director for KFC, said: “I’d like to thank every cricket club for entering the competition, we’ve had an incredible response – which highlights the need for an initiative of this nature. The KFC Cricket Club Grant Program will donate $20,000 to each of these five worthy local cricket clubs to help fund everything from bats and balls, to wickets and clubhouses.
"KFC has been dedicated to supporting Australian Cricket for many years and this program further demonstrates our commitment. Whether you watch the cricket with your family, at your local club or with your mates it provides so much enjoyment for many Aussies, which is why cricket is Australia’s favourite game!"
